Two young Rajans in Sri Lanka 7s Rugby Squad

Our 2009 Captain D. Etipola and 2007 V captain Nuwan Hettiarachchi is been included in the Sri Lanka rugby Squad. Rajans keep producing world class rugby players all the time.

Seven more new players including three schoolboys has been taken into the Sri Lanka Sevens pool for the Carlton Rugby Sevens, an IRB Asian regional series, scheduled to be held at the Sugathadasa Stadium on November 28 and 29.

S. Thalagampola (Kandy), Sameera Silva (Kandy), Nuwan Chamara (CR), Dinusha Chathuranga (CR), Wishamithra Jayasinghe (Isipathana), Roshan Weerarathne (Kingswood) and D. Etipola (Dharamaraja) are the new faces.

Training is scheduled to start this week under new coach Imthie Marikar and New Zealander George Simpkin who is here in Sri Lanka as tournament consultant for the Carlton Sevens.

Two key Sevens players Pradeep Liyanage and Saliya Kumara who did not play in the Shanghai Sevens due to injuries are expected to be back at training.

A former Sri Lanka captain Liyanage is also an automatic choice for the captaincy of the seven a side team once again.

The Daily Mirror reliably understands that the selected players have yet to be officially told of the training schedule or their status in the pool.

Sri Lanka pool- Ashen Karthelis (CR), Nuwan Hettiarachchi (Navy), Lasintha de Costa (CR), Samantha Lakshan (Navy), Chamara Vithanage (Kandy), Saliya Handapangoda, Dilip Selvam (Kandy), Suranga Pushpakumara (Navy), Niranjan Wickremaratne (Navy), Sharo Fernando (CH and FC), Dushanth Lewke (CR and FC) and Ravi Jayasuriya (Navy), Pradeep Liyanage (Kandy) and Saliya Kumara (Kandy).
